Welcome to my first blog!! Not exactly sure what I’ll be writing about over the days, weeks, and years to come, but gotta start somewhere.

With my retail IT background and the recent explosion of social networking, mobile apps, and gen Y consumers, I want to explore ways to bridge the gap between traditional retail (the dull and uninspiring world of brick & mortar retail) and the exciting new electronic and mobile tools that are so pervasive in today’s world. Gen Y consumers are a different breed, growing in its consumer power, and having an impact on how we shop. Not everyone wants to shop online all the time, people are more informed and have less time on their hands. Retailers need to adapt, and quickly. That is not to say that there are not already many exciting things going on in the retail world, one only has to walk into an Apple store or visit Zappos to see what the future could be today. I’ve never heard anyone say, ‘blech, I hated the experience I had in that Apple store’. How did you feel the last time you walked out of Wal-Mart, Costco, or even a Best Buy or Home Depot?

This is what I want to explore and share with you. Not to just share, but to actually build. Build ideas, build recommendations, and build real world applications of how to use these technologies to help retailers do what they do better. Your comments or suggestions on topics will help us do this.

Inspired by other digitial and social media gurus like Seth Godin and Chris Brogan, and my good friend Steven Milstein, I hope to inform and engage through this medium the best I can.

Much to be done and I’ll start to post interesting articles, trends, and updates as I continue to gather information and explore new ideas in these areas. But most of all, I need your comments!
